The specific term "Venus Tummy" was coined as early as September 2025, andmemesusing the term garnered increased virality throughout 2025 as the idea of the Venus Tummy became the subject of debate, stoked partially by the viral Pouch GFpost and an I Believe In Supremacymeme that uses the term. Critics of the Venus Tummy claim it is a sign of an unhealthy person. The term is purportedly derived from the Roman goddess of beauty, Venus, or the Greek version, Aphrodite, who is sometimes depicted in marble statues as having a stomach that fits the definition of a Venus Tummy.
