The first video using the phrase was uploaded in April 2022 and it was popularized by aviral videoposted to Tik Tok in early February 2023 in which a skier hits the Griddy while wearing skis, the camera operator saying, "she's hitting the gwiddy on the skis," resulting inparodiesof the video.
